FOR EXAMPLE, FABRIKA

“For example, Fabrika” continues the series of exhibitions at “PROEKT_FABRIKA” dedicated to the analysis of relations between material and immaterial labor in nowadays society, especially in Russia. The theme-related projects “Machine and Natasha”, “Labor movement” are part of this series, were presented in 2009.

At the same time this project opens the year 2010, in which our center turns five years old. In this context “For example, Fabrika” becomes an anniversary project. It both shows us the snapshot of fabrika “as it is” and through this reflects and analyses more general processes that take place in the field of labor relations from the point of view of an artist as a detached observer.

This exhibition presents the works of three artists from abroad, who are interested in what happens in Russia for a variety of reasons: Eléonore de Montesquiou works with video genre. Her works were exhibited in Saint Petersburg and Moscow, as well as during the 2nd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. This time she presents videos devoted to lives and thoughts of people who worked at Kreenholm textile manufacture in Estonia and at October paper factory in Moscow. Her early videos on the same issue are presented as well.

Romana Schmalisch, together with Robert Schlicht, presents the video film “Recitando”, shot with the participation of October paper factory workers in 2009. Romana also shows her work “Real Estate Avantgarde”, made in Saint-Petersburg at The Red Banner textile factory. This film focuses on the industrial constructivist architecture and its correlation to the political and social changes during the Avant-garde period in 1920s. Moreover, the film demonstrates the factory workers’ perception of the gentrification and conversion processes.

Olga Jürgenson is of Russian origin, although she now lives in England. She shares her tongue-in-cheek view on European labor migration. Visitors can sing along to the karaoke version of a popular song “Go West”, which the artist used as a soundtrack for her video piece. Another presented film is “Glory to Capitalism!”, a collage, consisting of footage filmed in a modern English factory, archival material and fragments from some classical films.

Opening of the exhibition will be held January 18 at 7 p.m.

During the exhibition in the hall "Aktovy Zal" will be held videodemonstration.

Video will start at 8 p.m.
