Every Era Dreams the One to Follow

In “Every Era Dreams the One to Follow,” a photo installation printed on transparent plastic and glass, American artist Dana Maiden captures the reflections of two cities on the cusp of a new era. From Los Angeles—a notoriously amnesic city with its endless strip malls baking in the sunshine, to Moscow—a city whose history remains palpable amidst feverish construction and streets choked with cars, Maiden looks past the pervasive imagery of advertising and turns her attention to the comparatively quiet, modest images of window reflections. There, she finds a mirror that simultaneously alludes to the past, present and future of two of the world’s most dynamic cities. This project is presented as a result of Dana's work in the frame of our Artist In Residency programme.

Opening of the exhibition will be held September 10 at 19.00.

Bio:
Dana Maiden lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. She earned a BA in Visual Arts, Art History and English from Columbia University and an MFA in Sculpture and Photography from Claremont Graduate University. Using photography as a tool for investigating the way spatial relationships can be perceived, Maiden creates sculptures and prints that hover between two and three dimensions. She is the 2008 recipient of the Feitelson Fellowship, and recently had a solo exhibition entitled A Lamp is Put in Place of the Sun at the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery. Her work has been shown at the UCR California Museum of Photography, the Vincent Price Art Museum, High Energy Constructs, Solway Jones Gallery, Track 16 Gallery, and the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art.
